A man accused of torching his ex-fiancées psychic business died when he was severely burned, the Broward Sheriffs Office said.
Luis Evans, 19, died Monday of his injuries at Jackson Memorial Hospitals burn unit. Detectives are still trying to pieces together Evans actions in the last hours of his life.
According to the investigators, the incident began around 7 p.m. Sunday when a driver reported seeing smoke coming from 5716 Hallandale Beach Blvd. in West Park. The building housed the psychic business.
When the driver went back to check, BSO deputies said the witness saw a black Pontiac leaving.
After the fire was extinguished, a dog with the State Fire Marshal arson detection unit discovered accelerants inside the damaged business.
A short time later, the business owner, Jennifer Tanner, 26, said she received a call telling her that Evans, her ex-fiancé, showed up at a friends home with severe burns. He was eventually taken to Jackson's burn unit.
The black Pontiac believed to have been spotted leaving the scene of the fire was also located by BSO.
