Host Pine Crest impressed at the 50th annual Woodson Invitational as the boys’ and girls’ teams each finished second.
The prohibitive favorites, Jacksonville Bolles, won the tournament, but it did not take away from the host Panthers’ performance.
Bolles, winners of 25 consecutive state championships on the boys’ side, finished with 392 points. Pine Crest finished with 184 points.
The Bolles’ girls, the 22-time defending state champs, narrowly beat Pine Crest 266-252.
Calvary Christian (8-1) suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of Palmer Trinity 18-25, 27-25, 17-25, 26-24, 15-10.
The Falcons pulled off the upset in large part because of the play of Daniella Litkee, who registered 40 assists, 17 kills and two aces.
Ashley Quero added 11 kills and five blocks, and Grace Hibsman recorded seven kills and five blocks.
With the win, Palmer Trinity improved to 8-4.
