As a mediator for 10 years, I’ve learned that the opposite of conflict is peace.
Mediation is the coming together of individuals who have disagreements at any level, to work toward listening, gaining an understanding and creating opportunity with ideas that can lead to resolution. This takes place with a person who is properly trained, certified or licensed in their state.
More important, the mediator is there not for a fee, but to want to help those involved.
Look at the situation in Syria. Without communication with two disagreeing sides, there cannot be a road to peace. There’s now a willingness by different sides to work together.
The same takes place in family situations. As people, as a country, we must find a way to move toward peace. I believe mediation is the way.
