Stephen Ross’ $200 million contribution to his alma mater, the University of Michigan, is laudable.
His statement that the public should fund a sizable portion of his renovations to the Dolphins’ stadium is telling the residents of Miami-Dade County that we must spend our threadbare tax funds to show our commitment to that cause — while many live below or just at the poverty line. This is hypocrisy at its finest.
In a way, Miami-Dade County has already contributed both to the Dolphins’ stadium and to the University of Michigan, since $50 million or so of Ross’ dollars went to the university instead of to the “sorely needed” repairs and upgrades to the stadium.
Ross takes us all for fools in making such grandiose statements of his largesse.
