When Lionel Richie sings his classic, All Night Long (All Night), he’s not kidding.
Richie, in buff shape at 64, performed a full two-hour concert before more than 500 VIPs of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino near Hollywood Tuesday night.
At his invitation-only gig he teased “the first show before the first show,” champagne was poured by Cirque du Soleil-inspired female bartenders who hung upside down a la Richie’s ’80s hit, Dancing on the Ceiling.
Richie, who opened his tour with a concert at the venue’s Hard Rock Live Wednesday night, ran through most of his solo and Commodores hits at the pre-show and noted how his songs like Truly, Running With the Night, Still and Sail On have formed the soundtrack for his audience’s love affairs and divorces, he laughed.
He’d get to All Night Long, but not before toying with fans who danced at the lip of the stage. First, he offered a tender rendition of his 1983 ballad, Hello at the piano.
“Have to have a little foreplay. Can’t just do All Night Long.”
Somehow, we bet he could.
