Beer: Dogfish Head Punkin Ale
Style: Brown ale with pumpkin
Alcohol: 7 percent by volume
Price: About $10 a four-pack of 12-ounce bottles at Publix
Story: Pumpkin-flavored beers have grown so popular that the best ones often disappear long before Thanksgiving. So if you get a chance to try Punkin Ale from Dogfish Head in Delaware, drink up. This smooth brown ale is brewed with pumpkin flesh, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The beer’s slight sweetness softens its alcohol edge, which, at about a third higher than a typical lager, can sneak up on you.
Pairing: The pumpkin-pie flavors of Punkin Ale seamlessly pair with the candied sweet potato and creamy potted meat in the Jar o’ Duck at the Federal in Miami.
