Van Aken, Cabrera honored


Speaking of Norman Van Aken, the French-based International Academy of Gastronomy has awarded the “founding father of New World cuisine” its Grand Prix de la Culture Gastronomique. He is the first American so honored in the academy’s 30-year history;

Julio Cabrera of the Gale South Beach’s Regent Cocktail Club bested 50 competitors to win the Bombay Sapphire Most Imaginative Bartender contest in Las Vegas earlier this month. The victory lands him a spot on a future GQ magazine cover and a shot at the world title.
