Coral Springs’ boys cross-country team cruises

In stating it’s claim as the No. 1 team in the nation, the No.3 St. Thomas Aquinas football team (2-0) got 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Mardre London and seven tackles and three sacks from star defensive lineman Nicholas Bosa to beat defending national champion John Curtis Christian (La.) 27-13 in the Louisiana Superdome.


Samantha Delfino, Coral Springs Christian, girls’ volleyball: Delfino had 31 assists, 12 points and eight digs to lead the Crusaders past Lake Worth Christian.

Eric Pittman, Miramar, football: Pittman rushed for 141 yards and had a 59-yard touchdown gallop to lead the Patriots (3-0) over Plantation (2-1) 28-14.

Marisa Messana, American Heritage, girls’ golf: Messana finished a team-best ninth to lead the Patriots to the Carrolton Invitational title.

Manuel Velasquez and Alexa Cruz, St. Thomas Aquinas, cross-country: Velasquez (15:42) finished second and Alexa Cruz (18:32) third to help the Raiders’ girls and boys finish first and fifth, respectively, at the Mountain Dew Invitational.

Valentina Haupt, Cypress Bay, girls’ golf: Haupt (36) won medalist honors to lead the Lightning over Western 156-188.

Celeste Grimmett, Hollywood Christian, girls’ volleyball: Grimmett had 10 kills, seven points and three aces to lead the Eagles over Miami Northwest Christian.

Jeremy Farrell, Archbishop McCarthy, boys’ cross-country: Farrell led a 1-2-3-4 finish as the Mavericks captured the Archbishop Invitational title.

Isaiah McKenzie, American Heritage, football: McKenzie scored on an 85-yard run, 59-yard reception and 80-yard punt return to lead the Patriots past Miami Columbus 42-7.

Jordan Scarlett, University, football: Scarlett rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns to lead the reigning Class 3A state champion Suns (3-0, No. 13 StudentSports) over host Cypress Bay 37-7.

Peyton Bender, Cardinal Gibbons, football: Bender threw for 228 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Chiefs (3-0) over Cooper City 31-0.

Amanda Medlock, Western, volleyball: Medlock had 14 kills, three aces and 15 digs to lead the Wildcats (4-0) over Nova.

Jordan Batchelor, American Heritage, boys’ golf: Batchelor (137), Jorge Garcia and Kristian Caparros went 1-2-3 to lead the Patriots to the Titans Invitational title.

Katie Pinnell, North Broward Prep, girls’ cross-country: Pinnell won the Archbishop McCarthy Invitational girls’ title in 21:13.

Nick Gastesi, Taravella, boys’ golf: Gastesi (41) finished second to help the Trojans beat Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach.

Coral Springs dominated a boys’ cross-country meet at Markham Park on Monday.

Johnathan Gonzales (18:37) and Djery Clement (18:42) came in first and second, respectively, to give the Colts the victory.

Coral Springs finished with 31 points, followed by South Plantation (70), West Broward (89), South Broward (100), Dillard (136) and Miramar (174).

Cardinal Gibbons dominated its doubleheader against Hallandale.

In the first match, the Chiefs won 25-3, 25-3, 25-5. Laura Langsenkamp led her team with five kills, 15 points and 13 aces.

In the second match Bailey Pearlman took over and scored 22 points and 15 aces, which led her team to another three-set victory 25-4, 25-7, 25-2.

With the victories, Cardinal Gibbons improved to 11-2.
