Miami-Dade police warned Monday of robbers who have targeted taxi drivers in the last few days.
The first incident occurred Sunday at around 8 p.m. when a taxi driver broke down in the area of Northwest 79th Street and Sixth Avenue. As he waited for a tow truck to arrive, two young gunmen approached him and demanded his money. The victim was forced out of the vehicle but once the suspects realized that the cab was inoperable, they ran off with $60 they took from the victim.
About an hour later, another cab driver was called to the area of Northwest 72nd Terrace and Second Avenue. When he arrived, two gunmen came up to his car and demanded the cabbie and his friend, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, give up their cash. Both victims were also ordered to get out of the car. The suspects jumped in and sped off with the highly noticeable vehicle, which has not been recovered.
