I am sure there are many regrets in Carlos Bertonatti’s family now that he has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a fatal drunk-driving hit and run. It is too easy to say, “I am sorry.” But it is much harder for a parent to teach, and a child to learn, what the results of irresponsible behavior might be before causing such a tragedy.
These are lessons Bertonatti apparently did not learn until it was too late for Christophe LeCanne — and too late for Bertonatti, too. Parents, teach your children well. My sympathy goes to both families for the futures that have been lost.
