With an increased number of robberies reported in Miami Beach, the city’s police department hopes to combat the crime by joining a task force.
The task force is led by Miami-Dade police and is made up of local law enforcement agencies.
In 2012, there were 407 robberies reported in Miami Beach. That’s a 10 percent increase over the previous year, when 370 robberies were reported, according to a city memo.
“Since persons who commit robberies travel at will, from one local jurisdiction to another; a group of dedicated law enforcement personnel preventing and investigating violent crimes specifically the crime of robbery is an effective crime fighting tool,” according to the memo.
Commissioners at their September regular meeting on gave the OK for Miami Beach to join the coalition.
