Sluggish second half plagues Dillard in Texas showcase

Dillard built a commanding 26-8 second-quarter lead over Stephenville (Texas) in the Lone Star Sports High School Football Classic in Texas on Saturday before it all came apart.

The Yellow Jackets (2-1) seized control of the game for good by outscoring the Panthers 35-6 in the second half and beat Dillard 43-32.

Falling to 0-2, the Panthers wasted a dominant defensive effort from 6-4 defensive end Arthur Kennedy and linebacker Randy Ramsey. Kennedy had three sacks and Ramsey added two sacks, including a forced fumble on four-star quarterback Jarrett Stidham and subsequent 97-yard return for a touchdown.

“The game changed coming out of halftime,” Kennedy said.

“The coaches warned us about it, but we had the feeling that we had already won. We were up 26-21 and came out a little sluggish and they scored a quick touchdown.”

Dillard coach Lorenzo Davis said the Texas heat played a huge role in his team wearing down in the second half.

The Panthers play Coconut Creek on Friday at 7 p.m.
