Monsignor Pace routs Inlet Grove

Special to the Miami Herald

It took Monsignor Pace more time (90 minutes) to make the trip north to Riviera Beach than it did to dispatch outmanned and outgunned Inlet Grove as the Spartans scored early, often and every way imaginable.

Pace (3-0) led 49-0 at halftime before the second half resorted to a running clock. Quarterback Kelly Benson (5 of 6, 91 yards) threw two touchdown passes in one half of work, and running backs Albert Small, Sage Lewis and Demarrio Smith each had touchdown runs.

The Spartans also had two interception returns for scores by Stanley Barnwell and Patrick Stanley, a punt-return touchdown by Malcolm Anderson and a kickoff return for a score by Leondre Hughes.

Pace will enjoy a bye week before preparing for a district showdown with the No. 1 team in the nation, Booker T. Washington on Sept. 27.
