Pedestrian killed in crash near Miami Dade College medical campus

Miami police are investigating a car accident that killed a pedestrian near the Miami Dade College medical campus Thursday evening.

The accident took place at about 7:20 p.m. when the driver struck a man, believed to be in his 40s, at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 20th Street in Miami.

Miami Fire Rescue workers arrived shortly after the accident and transported the victim to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he later died, said fire rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll.

The intersection was shut down late Thursday as homicide investigators surveyed the scene.

Carroll said several people, including a nurse and a doctor from the nearby campus, attempted to treat the man.

Charges against the unidentified driver, who remained at the scene and was not injured, were pending the results of the investigation.
