Re the Sept. 6 article Up to 995,000 Floridians at risk in ’coverage gap’: Many Republicans, whether in Congress or in state legislatures, were saying that the Affordable Care Act would create “death panels.” The irony of it all is that that the five conservative justices of the Supreme Court are the ones who authorized the creation of these panels by allowing states to opt out of providing the Medicaid expansion part of the act.
The fate of millions of Americans who don’t qualify for Medicaid and can’t get tax credits to help them purchase health insurance has been decided. They cannot get routine medical care and must rely on hospital emergency rooms when they get too sick to ignore their symptoms. Why are Republicans against every American having access to affordable healthcare? Do they really believe it will save money?
