Florida players on the mend

Miami Herald Writer

The Gators didn’t just lose to Miami last weekend. They limped home.

The Gators are in the middle of their earliest bye week since 2008, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Coach Will Muschamp, on the Southeastern Conference teleconference Wednesday, updated the status of several injured players.

• Quarterback Jeff Driskel (sprained knee), right tackle Tyler Moore (ankle), left tackle D.J. Humphries (knee), cornerback Marcus Roberson (sprained knee), defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. (hip contusion) and safety Marcus Maye (shoulder) were all injured in the loss to UM, but Muschamp expects them to play against Tennessee on Sept. 21.

• Muschamp also said right guard Jon Halapio (torn pectoral) has been officially cleared for contact, but freshman cornerback Nick Washington (shoulder) is done for the season.
