Hurricanes defensive tackle Curtis Porter continues to improve and impress.
The fifth-year senior had a tackle-for-loss and fumble recovery at the 50-yard line in the first quarter against Florida. Denzel Perryman forced the fumble.
The Canes (2-0) — who are off this weekend and play next against Savannah State (0-2) on Sept. 21 — scored on the ensuing drive.
“He’s doing a great job,” UM coach Al Golden said of Porter, who has been injured much of his career. “How can you underestimate the impact he’s had on our defense right now? And it’s not just his size. It’s everything — his approach, the way he’s finishing plays, the arm violence. He’s turning and running to the ball. He’s in better condition. He has been fun to coach.”
Leave the hair alone
Quarterback Stephen Morris was asked by Atlantic Coast Conference Digital Network host Jeff Fischel — if UM wins the ACC title, would he “run up and mess” up Golden’s hair?
Replied Morris: “There are a couple of things you just don’t do, and messing up [the hair of] Coach Golden is definitely in the top five. I’ll just leave that one alone.”
