Re the Sept. 8 letter Sugar land purchase critical for Everglades restoration: The state already bought a large chunk of sugar land with money that should have been used to finish the huge reservoir in Palm Beach County. There were millions of dollars wasted paying a contractor to sit idle for months while this project was scrapped. Now the Corps of Engineers plans to build a lesser storage area on the site of this huge scar on the land.
To make matters worse, the state then leased the land back to the sugar company so that it could continue to pollute.
