TEAM OF THE WEEK

Booker T. Washington’s football team won the titanic clash between the two top-ranked teams in the nation, beating Central 28-17 thanks to a stellar effort by its defense. Terry Jefferson capped the performance with a game-clinching 75-yard interception return for a touchdown in the closing seconds.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Maurice Alexander, Homestead, football: Alexander threw five touchdown passes, including four in the first half, and finished with 321 yards on 12-of-21 passing to lead the Broncos to a 45-22 win against Southridge.

Markel Anderson, Miami Beach, football: Anderson recovered three fumbles that helped the Hi-Tides secure a 33-21 win against Ferguson.

D’Undre Pickett-White and Kristian Torano, Southwest, football: Pickett-White and Torano connected for three late touchdowns to help the Eagles stun Hialeah 30-19.

Adara Anselmo, Coral Reef, girls’ volleyball: Anselmo had 19 kills and six digs to lead the Barracudas to a win against Killian.

Bianca Fernandez, Miami Beach, girls’ volleyball: Fernandez had 25 digs and five aces to lead the Hi-Tides to a win against Krop.

Nick Diaz, Sunset, boys’ cross-country: Diaz ran a time of 16 minutes 12.96 seconds to secure the individual championship of the Ferguson Invitational.

Katrina Santiago, Ferguson, girls’ cross-country: Santiago ran a time of 19:37.23 to win the individual championship and lead the Falcons to the team title of the Falcon Invitational.

Juan Yumar, Columbus, boys’ golf: Yumar shot a36 to lead the Explorers to a win against Ransom Everglades.

Tanya Eathakotti, Carrollton, girls’ golf: Eathakotti shot a 35 in a meet between the Cyclones and Gulliver.

Taylor Schmidinger, Westminster Christian, girls’ swimming: Schmidinger won the 100 and 200 freestyle to lead the Warriors to a win against Coral Shores.

Jon Hall, South Dade, boys’ bowling: Hall bowled a 595 high series to lead the Bucs over TERRA.

Tori Burstein, TERRA, girls’ bowling: Burstein bowled a high series 617 to lead the Wolves to a win against South Dade.

The TERRA girls’ volleyball team dominated the Doral Academy Firebirds with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 victory on Monday night.

The Wolves were led by Brooke McDermott, who recorded 13 kills, three aces and one assist. McDermott was followed by teammate Nati Matamala, who registered 22 assists and two aces and Mimi Penas added eight kills.

TERRA will face MAST Academy on Thursday at 4 p.m.
