Jeep stuck on tracks is hit by Tri-Rail train

A Jeep and a Tri-Rail train collided Monday, making a mess of traffic on Hallandale Beach Boulevard and delaying the commuter rail service as morning rush-hour started.

No one was hurt, but the road was shut down in both directions at Interstate 95, forcing traffic to navigate on Pembroke Road to the north and Ives Dairy Road to the south.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the Jeep was attempting a U-turn after leaving a neighborhood strip club, got stuck on the tracks and was sideswiped by the train. The Jeep’s driver was arrested and charged with DUI.

Three people were inside the Jeep, which had just left Scarlett's Cabaret in nearby Hallandale Beach, and about 100 people on the train.

The crash happened in West Park just before 6 a.m. The road was cleared by 9 a.m.
