Cristian Macelaru, associate conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra and a UM graduate, led the University of Miami Frost Symphony Orchestra in an ambitious program of works by Ravel, Debussy and Bohuslav Martinù to open its 2013-14 season.

Though the Frost ensemble had been playing and rehearsing together for only two weeks, it produced excellent performances at Gusman Concert Hall Saturday night that were a tribute to the high caliber of the student players and Macelaru’s leadership and musical insight.
