Miami’s Top 5: What you should know Monday

1. The West Miami-Dade city rocked by the arrest of its mayor and allegations against several police officers, will pick a new commissioner and vice chairman Monday night. So who are the candidates in Sweetwater? Some are still a mystery.

2. A Key Biscayne musician who hit and killed a cyclist in a drunk-driving hit-and-run crash, is about to be sentenced. A hearing begins Monday for Carlos Bertonatti, who faces 11 to 37 years behind bars.

3. The University of Miami Hurricanes football team starts the week ranked No. 15, a rise in the AP poll after Saturday’s big win against the University of Florida Gators.

4. The week starts out with a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain in South Florida, with mainly Monday afternoon rain. Tuesday’s forecast looks similar.. Meanwhile, forecaster are tracking the tropics, with Tropical Storm Humberto forming in the Atlantic.

5. Some property owners with Citizens Insurance can expect to hear soon from another company taking over the coverage. About 400,000 letters will go out by early November — and rates could increase.
