Our families go to the libraries for community activities, to improve reading skills, to use computers and for self improvement. But a crippled library system can provide none of this to those who most need it. We have one of the best library systems, but budget cuts will result in fewer books, fewer hours and days open and fewer opportunities. No matter what Mayor Carlos Gimenez says, our county needs a strong library system.
On Sept. 10, Miami-Dade County commissioners need to vote to raise the library’s millage to .2993. This is a near insignificant increase, but will fill the $13 million gap for the library system to stay intact.
