Special to The Miami Herald

The New Trent Travelpak Plus portable battery is both powerful and friendly. The oomph is its high-capacity 7000 mAh lithium ion innards, which powers the two USB ports capable of handling 5 volts/3.1 amps max — enough to fully charge a hungry tablet and cell phone simultaneously. What’s friendly is the integrated flip-open AC wall plug (that’s one less cable to worry about), which lets you charge your devices while the battery is getting juiced. Also welcome are the 4 ambient LED indicators, which show the status of the battery, from weak fully loaded. Press the power button for 2 seconds and the LED indicator doubles as a night light. The palm-size battery is on the chunky side, as high-capacity batteries tend to be, but it earned its keep when, during a hike, I grabbed it out of my bag to rescue my nearly drained cell phone. You’ll need to provide your own USB cable for IOS devices, but the Travelpak Plus comes with a micro USB cable for Android phones.

Travelpak Plus NT700C portable travel battery is $54.95. Info:
