A Key Largo man stole smart phones, camera equipment, and purses from unsuspecting beach goers and loaded them into his gold Mercedes before being caught, deputies said.

Sterling Brower, 22, was spotted at the beach of the Hilton Hotel in Key Largo about 4:30 p.m. Friday. Witnesses told Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies that they saw Brower steal the items from hotel guests who had left their belongings on the beach when they went swimming.

Brower ran to his Mercedes once he realized he was being watched and stuffed the stolen goods into the trunk, deputies said. He then jumped over the fence of a nearby property and hid, deputies said.

Deputies found and arrested Brower. They had a search warrant for the truck and found all of the stolen items inside.

Brower was charged with three counts of grand theft and resisting arrest, deputies said.
