Teladoc, a telehealth provider with more than 6 million members, announced the acquisition of Consult A Doctor, a Miami Beach-based competitor. With this acquisition, individuals and employees of small- to medium-size businesses — Consult A Doctor’s specialty — have access to Teladoc’s national network of U.S. board-certified, state-licensed physicians for consults, according to the Dallas-based Teledoc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Through both companies, patients consult with a physician via phone or secure online video to receive treatment for non-emergency medical issues, such as allergies, bronchitis, pink eye and sinus problems, saving considerable time and costs. In many states, services are reimbersible for insurance purposes just like face-to-face exams. Consult A Doctor was founded in 2007 by Wolf Shlagman, funded by local angel investors and later venture capitalists, and was a winner at the 2011 Americas Venture Capital Conference.
