A young man on a bicycle circles the parking lot of a supermarket, approaches a shopper who is entering his car and, after confronting him, aims a gun and fires.
That is the scene played out on a video released by the Miami-Dade Police Department that shows how a young man assasinates Miguel Pilotos, a 71-year-old resident of Opa-locka. The disturbing footage has been made public in hopes that witnesses might come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The incident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 21 at the Top Value supermarket located in the 13900 block of Northwest 27th Avenue. The video, released Thursday, shows the suspect walking inside the store moments before the shooting. He then is seen on a bicycle in the parking lot.
"The motive appears to be robbery," said Javier Baez, a police spokesman. "It seems like he was looking for a victim."
The family is seeking justice. Pilotos’ widow Aleida Pilotos told CBS4 that she is now home alone.
"It will not be easy, it will take time to recover from this situation," said Roberto Miranda, a nephew. "If the community recognizes this person, call the police and let them know. We would appreciate this information.”
Anyone with information about the suspect or the crime is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
