Boris Morales was running on empty and stopped at the first gas station he found Friday afternoon. To his dismay, the Chevron station on Northeast 167th Street and Sixth Avenue was charging $4.85 a gallon for regular gasoline.

That’s $1.26 more than another station a block away.

The Chevron station also charges $4.95 for plus and $4.99 for supreme.

He didn’t look at the price, expecting a 30-cent variance from the average cost, and was shocked when he finished putting 17 gallons into the tank.

“I had zero miles left on the mini van and stopped at the nearest station,” Morales said. “I was shocked.”

Morales went into the Chevron store to complain. Employees laughed and told him the owner had recently hiked up the price just because.

An employee at the gas station reached by phone hung up when he was asked about the gas price hike.

According to a website, miamigasprice.com, the lowest price for regular is $3.45 and the highest is $4.75.
