Tamiami baseball field to be dedicated to the late Ovidio Acosta

A baseball field at Tamiami Park will be dedicated next week in honor of the late Ovidio Acosta, a long time volunteer with youth baseball programs in Miami-Dade.

At 10 a.m. ceremony on Sept. 14, the park’s baseball field #5 will renamed “Ovidio Acosta Baseball Field.”

“Acosta was the heart and soul of youth baseball at Tamiami Park and a source of inspiration to the thousands of young baseball players that he mentored over the years,” said Miami-Dade Commissioner Juan C. Zapata, who sponsored the resolution..

Acosta worked with the Miami Friends Baseball Association youth baseball program for the past 27 years.

The public is invited to attend the event at the park at 11201 SW 24th St.
