Beer of the week: Victory Prima Pils

Beer: Victory Prima Pils

Style: Pilsner

Alcohol: 5.3 percent by volume

Price: About $10 a six-pack at Whole Foods Markets

Story: Pilsners, which are German-style lagers, tend to get overlooked in favor of trendy IPAs or burly, barrel-aged brews. Prima Pils, from Pennsylvania’s Victory Brewing Co., is one pilsner that’s worth your attention. It’s brewed with German-grown hops and malts for a balanced flavor that’s not over-the-top yet still unforgettable. Hands-down, Prima is my favorite American-brewed pilsner.

Pairing: For a classic pizza-and-beer pairing, have a Prima Pils with a wood-fired pie from Fratelli La Bufala in Miami Beach. The beer’s subtle bitterness cuts through the unctuous cheese, and primes your palate for another bite.
