Don’t cripple Miami-Dade libraries

I’m distraught about the future of our library system. I was present in the White House, just a few years ago, when Laura Bush presented the Medal of Honor to our library system, which was recognized for innovation and excellence. A system that partnered with our juvenile court to encourage reading and worked with impoverished families to provide books to children whose families could not afford them. Our families go to the library for free tutoring, community activities and to learn the joy of reading.

Libraries are the cornerstone of civilization, and our library system is one of the best. Budget cuts will result in fewer books, fewer hours and days open and fewer employees. This will cripple our fine system and deprive our citizens of an invaluable resource.
