One in four working Americans earns less than $10 an hour. MIT researchers say that a single person in South Florida needs at least $11.16 and a single adult with one child needs $22.25 on average for a living wage.
Our nation is called the land of opportunity. What opportunities are there for workers not earning a living wage? Congress needs to heed the cry for a more just wage currently being made by fast-food and retail workers. People earning at the current level, even if working full time, often rely on food stamps or food banks as well to survive. Every citizen deserves the opportunity for a decent life, and that requires a just, living wage.
