TALLAHASSEE -- After scoring a combined five touchdowns and setting an FSU record for single-game completion percentage in his Florida State debut, Jameis Winston wasn’t about to get big headed. Asked about his performance after FSU’s 41-13 win, the redshirt freshman already had a list of improvements to make.
“I can get better every single day, I had two busts, I got sacked — I don’t like getting sacked — and there’s just so many other things that are under the table that people don’t see,” Winston said. “As an athlete, you’ve got to get better every day if you want to be successful.
“We’ve got to play Nevada the week after next, Pittsburgh is in the bag. It’s a process.”
In the polls
Florida State moved up to 10th in both The Associated Press and the USA Today coaches’ polls, which were announced Tuesday.
The Seminoles jumped up one spot from 11th in the AP poll and leap-frogged both Georgia and Notre Dame to climb up from 12th in the coaches poll.
FSU has a bye week and will host Nevada in its home opener on Sept. 14.
