“We were on holiday and went to Paris and the South of France, and I read Notre-Dame de Paris [ The Hunchback of Notre Dame] by Victor Hugo. I just inhaled it. I did English literature as a degree, and but as an adult this was something I had never read. It’s an amazing book, with all the fantastic bits of storytelling, and it moves along so briskly. It’s so exciting and scary, a proper big, rich, satisfying novel.”
