Edison’s Eduardo Mendez leads Red Raiders past Krop

Two touchdown passes by Eduardo Mendez led the Red Raiders to the shutout victory.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mendez connected with wide receiver Robert Knowles on a 24-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Red Raiders (1-0) led 6-0 and maintained that lead until halftime.

In the second half, Edison added a second touchdown on a 2-yard run by Maurice Nelson.

In the final six minutes of play, the Red Raiders picked up a third score on a 6-yard pass from Mendez to wide receiver Fredrick Thorton.

Krop (0-1) struggled to gain momentum during the game and was hurt by penalties and a lost fumble in its on red zone. The Lighting finished the game with eight penalties for 75 yards.

Mendez finished the game with 47 passing yards and two touchdowns. Nelson did a little bit of everything and rushed for 35 yards, passed for 28 yards and had a catch for 10-yards.
