Miami Beach defeated Mourning High 22-7 in the season opener for both teams Friday night at North Miami Stadium.
Running back Marcellus Ferguson led the way for the Hi Tides with 84 yards on 19 carries.
Miami Beach quarterback Osky Serbin struggled to find his receivers, completing two passes.
Fortunately for the Tide, Ferguson and backfield companion, Miguel DeJesus, pounded the Sharks defense, racking up more than 130 yards on the ground. DeJesus ran for a 16-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Turnovers plagued the Sharks. Mourning turned the ball over eight times, including three fumbles in its first four possessions to start the game. The highlight of the game for the home team came when quarterback Frank Ochoa connected with receiver Kevin Joseph on a 26-yard touchdown in the third quarter for the Sharks’ only score of the game.
