A core principle of America’s democracy is being unraveled: The right to vote. To make matters worse, the Supreme Court handed Republican state legislatures tools to re-enact Jim Crow laws to repress citizen voting rights. Several states have enacted voter ID requirements where hunting licenses are more acceptable than a college ID. Only in a racist America would such a license be more valued than IDs which validate one’s pursuit of a college education.
Elected officials, who used their powers to repress people’s rights guaranteed by the Constitution, pose a greater threat to our democracy than any terrorist. While terrorists may be capable of destroying symbols of our democracy, the real danger lies with those who attempt to unravel our Constitutional rights.
