Romel Guerrier leads Westland Hialeah past Hialeah Gardens

For The Miami Herald

Romel Guerrier ran for four scores and threw for two more as Westland Hialeah opened the season with a 46-8 win over Hialeah Gardens on Thursday at Milander Park.

Guerrier, who has verbally committed to play collegiately at FIU, rushed for 201 yards and a whopping 18 yards a carry.

“He’s special,” Westland coach Mike Manasco said of his senior quarterback. “He’s a leader in practice, in the weight room. He’s the kind of player that makes you a better coach.”

Chris Leguizamo finished with 158 yards on the ground for the gladiators.
