FIU coach Ron Turner said senior defensive end Paul Crawford “didn’t make the travel team” for Saturday’s season opener at Maryland. Crawford began fall camp as a starting defensive end. For the last week and a half, he has been working with the second team. He has been the best in camp on the field-goal block team, a long-armed 6-8 annoyance up the middle to kickers.

Cool Gear event

Redshirt junior offensive tackle David Delsoin, sophomore running back Lamarq Caldwell, fifth-year senior linebacker Markeith Russell and redshirt junior cornerback Sam Gervais will participate with many other South Florida athletes Monday in the Jason Taylor Foundation’s Cool Gear for the School Year event at Old Navy at the Tower Shops in Davie. The event gives 60 kids from Dade and Broward counties a chance to each have a $300 shopping spree for school clothes.
