FIU Panthers’ Paul Crawford won’t play against Maryland

FIU coach Ron Turner said senior defensive end Paul Crawford “didn’t make the travel team” for Saturday’s season opener at Maryland. Crawford began fall camp as a starting defensive end. For the last week and a half, he has been working with the second team. He has been the best in camp on the field-goal block team, a long-armed 6-8 annoyance up the middle to kickers.

Cool Gear event

Redshirt junior offensive tackle David Delsoin, sophomore running back Lamarq Caldwell, fifth-year senior linebacker Markeith Russell and redshirt junior cornerback Sam Gervais will participate with many other South Florida athletes Monday in the Jason Taylor Foundation’s Cool Gear for the School Year event at Old Navy at the Tower Shops in Davie. The event gives 60 kids from Dade and Broward counties a chance to each have a $300 shopping spree for school clothes.

    FIU Panthers on the radio

    FIU and 1210 AM ESPNDeportes Miami announced an agreement Friday that brings Golden Panthers football back to conventional radio after two seasons broadcasting over handheld mobile devices. The station will broadcast all 12 regular-season games, with pregame and postgame analysis.

    FIU Panthers will don colorful uniform combinations

    FIU’s mix-and-match uniform combinations will include the return of gold pants this year. They will be worn only with the dark blue tops, according to the school’s athletics website. Also, FIU’s helmets will be a new shade of blue.
