Miami’s Top 5: What you should know Thursday

 

1. The Miami Dolphins play the New Orleans Saints at Sun Life Stadium in the final preseason game in which backups, including quarterback Matt Moore, are expected to play the bulk of the time. Game time is 7:30 p.m., and it will be shown on CBS4.

2. Facebook murder suspect Derek Medina is back in Miami-Dade Circuit Court where he will be formally charged with his wife’s murder. Medina’s arraignment comes three weeks after police say he shot and killed Jennifer Alonso and put a picture of her body on his Facebook page.

3. Employee benefits are front and center as Miami-Dade County commissioners tackle a dispute with labor unions, including a potential resolution of a contentious worker healthcare contribution.

4. More than a third of South Florida homes are still underwater. In Miami-Dade, 36.7 percent of mortgaged residences owed more than their market value. Number is 33 percent in Broward.

5. Soggy South Florida is drying out, with a forecast calling for 30 percent chance of rain and a high in the low 90s. Friday and Saturday forecasts call for a 20 percent chance of rain.
