FSU football team raising awareness

Miami Herald Writer

Florida State and Pittsburgh will be sporting special helmet decals in their season opener next Monday. Both schools announced that they will each wear a special “I Fight Fanconi” decal for the Kidz 1st Fund on the back of their helmets during the nationally televised game on ESPN.

The Kidz 1st Fund is the charitable organization of FSU coach Jimbo Fisher and his wife Candi.

“I thought it was a tremendous gesture by Coach [ Paul] Chryst and the University of Pittsburgh for suggesting that we wear the decal,” Fisher said. “Candi and I and our foundation can’t be anymore thankful as this will continue to bring awareness for the fight against Fanconi anemia that affects many. I can’t thank the University of Pittsburgh enough for such a great idea.”

Fanconi anemia is a rare genetic disorder.
