With only a few days left before kickoff, FAU coach Carl Pelini still hasn’t announced who will start at quarterback in the opener against the University of Miami on Friday night at Sun Life Stadium.
Either way, whoever starts — it’s among senior Melvin German, sophomore Jaquez Johnson and freshmen Greg Hankerson and DJ Juste — it’s likely multiple quarterbacks will see action.
“If I had my druthers, I think we’ll play multiple quarterbacks,” Pelini said Monday.
“But I have to be careful to say it’s not juggling the starter. I think we’ve got some guys with some talent, and we want to be able to get the ball in their hands. If we end up playing more than one, it will be more a fact of we’ve got a specific package for a two or a three guy and we’re utilizing their skills a little bit. We have a pretty good handle on what we’re going to do and where we’re going to go with it. I don’t know — I guess when you have a competition that has been as close as it has been you have some fluidity with it. But really our intention is to name a starter and let him take this team on his shoulders.”
