FSU’s Jameis Winston ‘just has it’

Miami Herald Writer

Coach Jimbo Fisher pointed to Jameis Winston’s consistency as one of the biggest factors in his decision to name the redshirt freshman his starting quarterback on Friday.

Winston’s teammates, however, pointed to something else when asked about the choice.

“He’s a natural leader,” senior left tackle Cam Erving said. “I noticed that when Jameis first came to college, the first day he was here.

“He just has it, he just has that personality. There’s just something about him.”

Redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker — whom Winston beat out for the starting job — handled the news well, according to Fisher.

Fisher also said “there’s a chance” both quarterbacks could see action in the same game.

“If it’s conducive to winning and what we think we have to do, we’ll do that,” Fisher said. “I would feel very comfortable doing that.”
