Norman Van Aken put his eponymous Coral Gables restaurant in the rearview mirror six years ago, but in Orlando, Norman’s at the Ritz-Carlton, Grande Lakes, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend with a gala.
Van Aken — ensconced since 2011 at Miami Culinary Institute’s Tuyo in downtown Miami — will be joined in the Orlando kitchen by fellow New American trailblazers Charlie Trotter, Emeril Lagasse, Jeremiah Tower and Dean Fearing to prepare an eight-course dinner for the black-tie crowd.
Tickets — which include a Friday night meet-the-chefs cocktail reception, Saturday night champagne reception and dinner (Van Aken’s dish: butifarra-stuffed pompano with caramelized cured foie gras and veal-porto reduction) an after-party, a night’s stay at the Ritz-Carlton and an autographed cookbook by each of the five chefs — are $1,000.
Reservations are available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 407-393-4343. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Orlando Ballet.
