After DCF contact, young lives snuffed out

  • Christian Byrd died June 24 at age 2. He drowned in a pool at a daycare center with a DCF history.

  • Cherish Perrywinkle of Jacksonville died June 22 at age 8. She was strangled to death by a registered sex offender after her mother, a long-time drug abuser, allowed the man to take the little girl from a mall.

  • Dakota Stiles died July 25 at age 3. He drowned in a slimy green pool that, only weeks earlier, a DCF investigator had described as 'exceptionally unsafe.'

  • Jayden V. Morales died July 21 at age 2. Police said his father shook the Homestead boy and threw him against a wall. DCF had given Jayden to the father after removing him from his mother. The dad had a history of domestic violence. © Facebook

  • Jewel Howard, of Sarasota, was 3 when she was beaten to death. Weeks earlier, DCF had received a report that Jewel had suffered a busted lip. Family photo

  • Ezra Raphael was whipped to death with a belt when his mother left him alone with her boyfriend in North Miami Beach, after DCF closed its investigation of her. Ezra was 2.

  • Jumar Edwards was arrested after the death of his girlfriend's daughter, 3-year-old Jewel Howard. Weeks before her death, Jewel told her birth father that her mother's boyfriend had beaten her face.

  • Asia Rosier is arrested after the death of her daughter. Rosier and her boyfriend, Jumar Edwards, are accused in her brutal death.

  • Chelsea Huggett, who has the birthdate and name of her daughter tattooed on her chest. The daughter's death this past April was ruled a homicide. Huggett is charged with aggravated child abuse. WTPS.com
