• Thursday’s surgery aimed at relieving pressure, swelling and bleeding in the head of Marlins minor-league pitcher Ramon Del Orbe, who fractured his skull after being struck by a line drive in the right temple earlier this week, “went well,” according to Marlins vice president of player development Marty Scott.
Scott said there is no timetable for Del Orbe’s release and the 21-year-old will remain in intensive care for at least another day.
When he is released, Scott said minor-league Latin coordinator Bobby Ramos and a trainer, who are with Del Orbe at the hospital, will travel back with him to Greensboro, N.C.
Scott said Del Orbe will probably need reconstructive surgery at a later date.
