Thailand: King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament celebrates 12th anniversary

The hugely popular King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament is celebrating its 12th anniversary in the seaside town of Hua Hin Aug. 28-Sept. 1. Organizers are promising some nail-biting action when Thailand’s defending champions, the King Power team, go head to head with the New Zealand Rugby All Black’s Robin Brooke, Olo Brown and Charles Riechelmann. The four-day festival has something for everyone including a spectacular opening parade, celebrity matches and Chang Noi Day (Children’s Day) with a baby elephant camp. The tournament, introduced to Thailand in 2001, has raised nearly $600,000 for projects aimed at elephant conservation.
