The Croesyceiliog Wales youth rugby team traveled to South Florida for a summer camp goodwill trip in helping promote the sport with the local High Performance program.
Wales defeated the Florida Youth Miami/Weston/Boca Raton team, under the High Performance banner, 44-22, in a rainy battle at Tequesta Trace Park in Weston.
The Wales players are accustomed to competing on muddy fields, unlike their American counterparts. So the Wales coaches were impressed with the play of the South Florida contingent, especially with those field conditions.
It marked the first time these Florida youth players from Miami, Weston and Boca Raton formed this team, thanks to Coach Javier Esteve from Weston Rugby. It was a great experience for them against experienced players.
The locals are part of the new High Performance Program, which is for top youth rugby players in Florida. After the game, they bonded with the Wales players during a barbeque.
