Accused Facebook killer Derek Medina to make court appearance in Miami Friday

A South Miami man accused of killing his wife, then posting a photo of her body on Facebook, is making another court appearance on Friday.

Derek Medina, 33, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jennifer Alfonso, 26, will appear in court at 9:30 a.m. in front of Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Yvonne Colodny at the Richard Gerstein Justice Building.

His hearing was placed on a court calendar late Thursday. After his initial appearance last week, Medina was not scheduled to appear in court again until Aug. 29.

On Tuesday, Medina’s wife was buried, a week after she was shot to death in the couple’s townhouse. Medina posted the photo and a confession before surrendering to police.

Medina said he killed his wife because he was tired of her physical abuse.

He was denied bond at his previous bond court appearance and is being held on suicide watch.
