Red alert

A

There’s nothing quite as seductive as a beautiful red pout. And this fall, crimson lips in every variety—from matte stains to full on gloss, from bright cherry shades to deep burgundies—are everywhere, runways and red carpets alike.

Once thought of as a high-maintenance shade (thanks to the tricky precision needed to avoid mistakes and the required reapplications), the new products are more performance-minded than ever. Like Estée Lauder’s Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer (in Hot Cherry), which promises to look great for no less than six hours.

Of course, it turns out certain tried and true classics had right all along: like Bobbi Brown’s Lip Color in Red that creates an iconic matte look but goes on creamy and is infused with Vitamin E and C and Beeswax to keep lips moist. Whichever you choose, there’s one key to pulling off a bold red lip: wear it confidently. It is red after all.
